Facebook and Google accused of using 'dark patterns' to mislead users

Facebook and Google have been accused of breaking data laws by using “dark patterns” that are “meant to manipulate” people by a consumer group backed by the Norwegian government.
The Norwegian Consumer Council (NCC) has issued a report warning that internet companies are continuing to “deceive by design” despite their claims they are compliant with new data protection law, in one of the most critical attacks on tech groups by a government-backed body.
The organisation analysed Facebook, Google and Windows 10 throughout April and May and found default settings were “privacy intrusive”, had misleading wording to give users an “illusion of control” and hid privacy-friendly choices. The architecture...
