Airtel tops 4G download speeds in Delhi; MTNL worst for call drops: TRAI



Airtel offers the maximum 4G mobile internet download speeds in Delhi-NCR region at an average of 8.9Mbps followed by Reliance Jio at 7.3Mbps as per the latest report by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The telecom regulator had conducted independent drive tests in Delhi License service area including Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad between February 20 and March 16. The report is based on the results of this test by TRAI.

Vodafone came after Airtel and Reliance Jio in 4G speeds with an average 4G download speed of 4.9Mbps. The report further revealed that websites load faster on Airtel 4G compared to Reliance Jio and Vodafone in Delhi-NCR. Even video streaming is faster on Airtel 4G while Vodafone offers the fastest 4G upload speeds of 5.8Mbps in the region. Reliance Jio and Airtel 4G offer upload speeds of 2.1Mbps and 2Mbps in Delhi-NCR.

As far as 3G mobile internet speeds are concerned in the Delhi-NCR region, MTNL topped the list by providing 3.7Mbps download speeds and faster website loading and video streaming time. Airtel 3G offered 3.3Mbps download speeds while Vodafone 3G and Idea 3G has 2.3Mbps and 2Mbps download speeds on 3G network in the Delhi-NCR region, according to the TRAI report. Airtel also topped in 2G mobile internet download speeds.


As far as call drop rates are concerned all telecom operators in Delhi-NCR have met the 2% Drop Call Rate (DCR) benchmark except Aircel and MTNL. Aircel 2G was reported to have a drop call rate of 5.7% while MTNL had a very high 19.5%. On 3G network, MTNL reported a drop call rate of 8.3%. Airtel and Reliance Jio reported a call drop rate of 0.3% and 0.2% on 3G network respectively while Vodafone 3G has 1% DCR. On 2G network, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea reported a good DCR of under well under the acceptable 2% limit.
